Update rules specify how the data (key figures, time characteristics, characteristics) is updated to data targets from the communication structure of an InfoSource. Thus an update rule connects an InfoSource to a Data target.
èAn update rule must be specified for each key figure and the corresponding characteristics of the InfoCube. For an ODS Object, it must be specified for the data and key fields, and for an InfoObject it must be specified for the attribute and key fields.
èThe following update types exist:

l *Addition
l *Overwriting (with ODS objects and InfoObjects only)

l *Constant
l *Master data attribute
l *Formula
l *Routine
